Prototype Street feedback

May 25, 2018

Recently, we popped up on Cardigan Street in Carlton, as a part of Melbourne Knowledge Week. The team spoke with more than 200 community members and city visitors who explored the Prototype Street. It was a great opportunity for in-depth conversations, delving into some of the issues and ideas that have been put forward so far.

Some recurring comments included:

  • A need for significant improvements to the public transport service, particularly greater priority and increased frequency was identified by many.
  • The importance of improving bicycle infrastructure to improve safety and increase people’s confidence to cycle.
  • Emerging technologies should complement existing transport modes, and some concerns were raised about the impacts of new inventions like drones including privacy and public nuisance.
  • The need to reduce the role of private vehicles in the city and provide better alternatives to driving.
  • There was a lot of interest in the international ideas presented and considerations made about how these could be implemented in Melbourne.

Thanks to everyone who dropped by to say hello. The feedback we captured has been collated with the data from the online surveys. Together this data will be analysed to inform the draft Transport Strategy later this year.
