Discussion paper 4 (Waste to Energy) released

July 5, 2018

A Discussion Paper titled Waste to Energy has been launched to explore the issues and opportunities associated with this waste management option.

The waste hierarchy states that the options for managing waste, in order of preference, are: avoidance, reuse, recycling, recovery of energy, treatment, containment, disposal. While not the preferred method, waste to energy is one option for managing waste. The issues associated with this option include the environmental benefits, land use, required standards, facility size and relative cost.

The Discussion Paper is available for download from the document library.

Feedback on the Discussion Paper and the draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy is requested via the feedback form or by emailing engineering@melbourne.vic.gov.au.
