Have your say on our proposed Retrofit Melbourne Financial Incentive Scheme

20 April 2026

City of Melbourne is developing a financial scheme aimed at supporting commercial building owners and businesses to improve their building’s energy performance.

The proposed Retrofit Melbourne Financial Incentive Scheme would enable eligible applicants to seek refunds for energy efficiency upgrade works to their commercial building. This is a key step in implementing the Retrofit Melbourne Plan – our long-term strategy for reducing emissions in the city’s commercial building sector, as we work towards becoming a zero carbon city by 2040.

As we plan the scheme – which is subject to the City of Melbourne’s draft Budget 2026-27 consultation and Council adoption process – we want to ensure it is practical and fit for purpose. We have developed draft guidelines which explain how the proposed scheme would work, eligibility requirements and the funded activities.

You can help us ensure the proposed scheme and draft guidelines are clear, practical and fit for purpose by completing a 10-minute survey.
