With buildings contributing up to 66 per cent of our carbon emissions, they play a big part in our city reaching its net zero emissions target by 2040.

To inform this work, the City of Melbourne is consulting with the community and building industries on how we can work together to make our buildings zero carbon.

We have engaged with more than 65 industry stakeholders and experts in the field, looked at international best practice, reviewed academic literature and determined seven possible initiatives that could support existing buildings to become zero carbon ready by 2040. If you would like to see how the initiatives fit with others in the market and a brief overview of what has been tried in the past, please see the full report.

Consultation closed 20 November 2022.
