New tender process for former school site

July 3, 2017

After careful consideration, the Council has decided to not proceed with the sale and redevelopment of the land at the former JH Boyd School site to Cairo Melbourne Pty. Ltd.

A new tender process will commence for the sale and redevelopment of the site (address 132 Kavanagh - formerly 229 City Road) for a commercial and residential development on the western portion of the site next to the King’s Way overpass.

This will not delay the design and construction of the new Boyd Park. Our priority is to get a new park up and running as soon as possible and $1.7 million has been committed towards building the new park in our 2017-18 Budget.

We are proceeding with the park design based on feedback received from you during the 2014 community engagement. We will apply for a planning permit for the demolition of the old school building (to the rear of the community hub building) which is temporarily being used as office space.

An updated design brief for the residential and commercial development will be released to the market later this year.

The design brief will include a requirement to provide 40 affordable residential apartments, a Six Star Green Star rated building and a suitable building footprint to allow for public realm access between City Road, the Boyd Community Hub and Boyd new park.
