Feedback on the City of Melbourne’s draft Creative Strategy has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 40 comments received.

Highlights included:

• It is an energetic call to arms in the way it views other cities and their level of investment in culture.
• I love that we have an Indigenous focus. It’s so important not to forget the heritage of the land.
• That it may create jobs for artists to be artists and recognises this is a relevant and important job.
• It is ambitious – it seeks to be systematically transformative.
• It’s a very exciting rethinking of art and the future that has the potential to reshape our thinking of the relationship between art and the city.
• Fantastic, big picture work.

Other feedback related to elements already included in the strategy, elements that sit with in our daily work, others that relate to implementation and a small proportion that are for noting only or are outside our scope.

As a result of this feedback, we have made a series of editorial amendments to clarify and expand on some points, such as our business as usual work and our development of an implementation plan.

The draft strategy will be considered by the Future Melbourne Committee on Tuesday 4 September.
