The City of Melbourne’s Disability Advisory Committee, established in 1999, is an advisory group of people with lived experience of disability that provides strategic advice on policy and practice issues to the City of Melbourne. The committee meets quarterly in March, June, September and November.
We sought applications from people interested in supporting City of Melbourne to reduce barriers and enhance the inclusiveness of our capital city.
There were four vacancies within the committee. We were particularly interested in receiving expressions of interest from:
- People with lived experience of intellectual or cognitive disability
- People with lived experience of deafness or who are hard of hearing (can include a person who is deaf/blind)
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
- People who are trans or gender diverse
- Young people aged 18 to 25 years of age.
Applications were accepted via an Expression of Interest form, or by contacting Vickie Feretopoulos if for those wishing to apply through an alternative format, for example:

The City of Melbourne’s Disability Advisory Committee is a consultative forum that provides strategic advice on policy and practice issues to the administration and Council. This advice assists Council in responding to the needs and aspirations of people of all abilities who live, work, study in, or visit, our city.
We are particularly interested in receiving expressions of interest from:
- People with lived experience of intellectual or cognitive disability
- People with lived experience of deafness or who are hard of hearing (can include a person who is deaf/blind)
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
- People who are trans or gender diverse
- Young people aged 18 to 25 years of age.
We are looking for people able to share ideas on how we can improve access and social inclusion for people with disability in the City of Melbourne.
We are seeking people with experience in:
- Advocacy
- Governance
- Access and social inclusion issues for people with disability.
The roles and responsibilities of committee members are:
- Participate in quarterly committee meetings.
- To have read meeting documents prior to the meetings.
- To share ideas and issues and respect different points of view.
- To share personal and professional knowledge, and community experience.
All committee members must abide by the City of Melbourne Code of Conduct which requires individuals to:
- Act honestly
- Exercise reasonable care and diligence
- Not make improper use of their position
- Not make improper use of the information acquired because of their position
- Adhere to City of Melbourne Code of Conduct.

Council will provide interpreters, carers, reimburse travel and car parking costs for attendance at meetings, and any other requirements (as advised) to support members to attend and participate in committee meetings.
A remuneration fee of $200 will be paid to all members for attendance at meetings.
