Visit and learn at Remix Raingardens

April 18, 2023

Scoot, ride or bus your way to Remix Raingardens at 80a Turner Street from 26 April and see how we’re using recycled materials to strengthen our city spaces.

This live science experiment uses plants, stormwater and sensors to put recycled materials to the test in a raingarden. Over the next few months we’ll be collecting data and observing how well the gardens can manage stormwater flow and foster healthy environments for plants and animals.

Each week, we’re adding stormwater collected from Fitzroy Gardens to the nine different raingardens. This is to simulate a storm or rain event. The nine gardens use five different recipes for the raingardens, so we can learn which recycled materials work best.

Come anytime from 26 April and learn about these special gardens and how they can help neighbourhoods become more climate-resilient, now and in the future. The gardens are located just ten minutes from the city on bike or e-scooter, or catch a bus with the whole family.

An official launch will celebrate this milestone; Innovations with water: design for a climate-resilient city. Join us as guest speaker Professor Tony Wong from Water Sensitive Cities Australia shares his insights on how water projects can help make cities and precincts like Fishermans Bend more liveable, sustainable, and climate prepared. The Remix Raingarden team will present the raingardens as an example of a circular economy innovation for water-sensitive urban design.
