We’ve developed an edible tree planting proposal for the Kensington Stock Route, which runs from Racecourse Road to the Maribyrnong River, as part of the implementation of the Urban Forest Strategy 2012-2032 (PDF 5.4MB). The Stock Route is a unique location in the city to introduce edible trees, increase species diversity and improve local food production.

We aim to establish a long term planting plan for the Kensington Stock Route in collaboration with the local community. This project introduces a very gradual transformation of the landscape, only planting edible trees when existing trees require replacement. The planting plan seeks to establish character zones and a species list to be used as a guide into the future.

Community consultation on this proposal ran from 18 October to 3 December 2021.
