The Kensington Community Recreation Centre’s final day of operation will be Tuesday 31 August.

The City of Melbourne is investing $10.2 million in this year’s budget towards the redevelopment of the Kensington Community Recreation Centre.

The redevelopment will bring state-of-the-art facilities to the community, including a 25-metre pool, a water play area, health and wellness areas, three indoor multi-sports courts, program rooms, community spaces and better integration with JJ Holland Park. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2021 and the centre will remain closed for the duration of the redevelopment, which is expected to be completed in 2023.

The centre’s final day of operation will be on Tuesday 31 August. While works won’t commence until the end of the 2021, this time is required to empty the centre and prepare it for demolition.

We want to ensure the redevelopment period is as easy as possible for all our community. The City of Melbourne and YMCA will provide support to its Kensington Community Recreation Centre (KCRC) members and casual users by providing suitable alternative exercise options to continue their health and wellness routines.

As a member, you currently have reciprocal access to other City of Melbourne centres free of charge, including North Melbourne Recreation Centre, Carlton Baths and Melbourne City Baths. Kensington Community Recreation Centre is planning to continue group fitness classes and gym at North Melbourne Community Centre, as well as some group fitness at Kensington Town Hall for the duration of the redevelopment.

Stay tuned to more information about the various relocation options by visiting Kensington Community Recreation Centre or Kensington Community Recreation Centre Facebook.

Please note that nearby residents will also be kept informed of construction progress once works commence.

In the meantime, we will look forward to providing you with ongoing updates about the redevelopment.
