Final Report to be considered at Future Melbourne Committee

September 17, 2021

The Melbourne Maritime Heritage Precinct and Mission to Seafarers - Feasibility and Business Case – Final Report will be considered at the Future Melbourne Committee meeting on Tuesday 21 September 2021.

With joint funding by the Victorian State Government and City of Melbourne engaged a consultant to undertake a feasibility and business case to deliver a feasibility study and business case (the Project) to determine the demand and interest in a maritime heritage area in and around Docklands and the Birrarung Yarra River.

The project included a specific review of Mission to Seafarer capability to contribute to the area as well as an assessment of possible locations in the event that the feasibility study brings together previous reports, strategies and intentions to deliver a Melbourne maritime heritage precinct.

The report acknowledged that the Mission to Seafarers building is held in high regard, valued and should be retained, including the continued delivery of seafarer’s welfare services.

To ensure all options for a maritime heritage area and a viable Melbourne Seafarers welfare service was considered, the project included an extensive community engagement process. The community consultation ran from 15 February to 15 March 2021.

A summary of our community engagement will be posted shortly.
