We’re looking at opportunities to enhance local streets and laneways in this neighbourhood to make it an even more welcoming place to live in and visit.

Recent changes to road use along Peel Street has highlighted the potential to broaden our focus, and consider a range of opportunities to improve comfort and overall appeal when walking in the area during the day and night.

These might include:

  • Physical design interventions, such as lighting, pedestrian paths, rubbish bins and seating.
  • Community activation such as street gardens, murals, neighbourhood safety initiatives and community connection opportunities.

Community consultation took place from 28 April to 24 May 2021. During consultation we looked for feedback for possible improvements to the following streets and laneways:

  • Peel Street
  • Princess Street
  • O’Connell Street
  • Capel Street
  • Bedford Street
  • Courtney Street
  • adjacent parts of Queensberry and Victoria Streets
  • connecting laneways in this precinct.
