In our municipality, there are 251km of roads and 350km of footpaths. The Road Management Plan (RMP) sets out our responsibilities, maintenance standards and inspection protocols for managing our road assets and civil liability – helping us to ensure that our streets are safe and well-maintained for everyone who visits, studies, lives or works in the City of Melbourne.

The main function of the RMP is to outline potential road asset defects – such as a loose or chipped paver on a footpath, overgrown vegetation obstructing a road or a damaged traffic sign – and provide guidance to our staff on when and how they should respond to each type of hazard.

We are required by legislation to review the RMP every four years. Following an internal and industry review of our 2021 plan, we have prepared a draft RMP for 2025 (MS Word 4.16 MB).
