Melburnians love green spaces - from tree-lined streets and local parks to sports fields and beautiful gardens.

Water is essential in keeping our green spaces healthy. However, climate change and population growth are putting pressure on Greater Melbourne’s water supply. Alternative water sources like rainwater, stormwater and recycled water can greatly improve how well we maintain our open spaces in times of drought.

City of Melbourne is exploring ways to make the most of alternative water sources to help conserve Melbourne’s vital drinking water and keep our green spaces cool and enjoyable to spend time in.

From 17 May to 21 June 2024 we asked the community for their thoughts on water security in Melbourne. What we heard will help us plan alternative water projects for the green spaces that matter most to you.

Let's keep Melbourne cool, green and growing.
