We recently completed the Fishermans Bend In-Depth Heritage Review, the most comprehensive review of heritage buildings and structures in Fishermans Bend to date. The independent study took a holistic view of sites, carefully considering historic and contemporary heritage values from the perspective of 20th century industrial development, particularly during WWII and post war growth.

Fishermans Bend is one of Australia's largest urban renewal project covering approximately 480 hectares in the heart of Melbourne. It consists of five precincts across two municipalities – the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip – and connects Melbourne's CBD to the bay. Our review examined sites within the City of Melbourne’s municipal boundary.

Based on our findings, we sought permanent heritage protection for three properties through Amendment C394. These properties include:

  • Former Kraft Factory at 1 Vegemite Way, Port Melbourne
  • Electricity Substation at 224-236 Salmon Street, Port Melbourne
  • Shed 21 at 206 Lorimer Street, Docklands.

Amendment C394 was gazetted in October 2022.
