The City of Melbourne wants everyone to be able to have their say on decisions that affect them or are of interest to them. We do this through community engagement. We run community engagement activities such as surveys, pop ups and workshops to seek feedback on our services, projects, plans and policies.

Our draft Community Engagement Policy outlines our commitment and approach to community engagement. We are currently reviewing this policy, and our community engagement practices, to understand what is working well and what we could do better.

We have conducted two phases of community engagement:

  • In Phase 1 (4 August to 10 September 2025), we sought feedback on how we can make it easier for people to participate and be clear how community feedback is used. Based on this feedback, as well as consultation with Councillors and learnings from an internal review, we have updated our Community Engagement Policy.
Find out more about what we heard on the community consultation page.
  • In Phase 2 (12 January to 27 February 2026), we shared the updated draft Community Engagement Policy for feedback. We will finalise this policy later in 2026. Feedback will help us understand if any further changes are required and how you would like to get involved in public consultations in the future. We will use this feedback to deliver future opportunities that suit our diverse community.
Register to speak at the Future Melbourne Committee meeting

You can share your feedback and register to present to Councillors in-person at the Future Melbourne Committee on 17 March 2026.

The final Community Engagement Policy will then be presented at the Council Meeting on 28 April 2026 for adoption. We will report back on how all contributions helped shape this important work.
