The City of Melbourne wants everyone to be able to have their say on decisions that affect them or are of interest to them. We do this through community engagement.

We run community engagement activities – such as surveys, pop ups and workshops – to seek feedback on our services, projects, plans and policies. Our Community Engagement Policy outlines our commitment and approach to community engagement. We are currently reviewing this policy, and our community engagement practices, to understand what is working well and what we could do better.

We have heard from the community already about some of the ways we could improve, including:

  • simplifying how we communicate information
  • promoting engagements through a broader range of channels
  • offering different ways to participate
  • making sure activities are inclusive and culturally appropriate
  • being more transparent about how community feedback is used.

To build on this feedback, we are conducting two phases of community engagement:

  • In Phase 1 (open now) we are seeking feedback on how we can make it easier for people to participate and be clearer on how community feedback is used. Based on this feedback, as well as consultation with Councillors and learnings from an internal review, we will make changes to our Community Engagement Policy.
  • In Phase 2 (open November this year), we will share our updated Community Engagement Policy for feedback. We will then finalise and follow this policy in 2026.

Have your say

We are keen to hear from people who have participated in our community engagement activities as well as people who haven’t participated before.

Review our current Community Engagement Policy (PDF 3.64 MB) and see what you've already told us before completing the survey below. Or join us at a pop-up session to chat with City of Melbourne staff and have your say.

Consultation closes 10 September 2025.
