Design to proceed to tender

December 24, 2020

Following our last update, the draft design for the Kensington Community Recreation Centre was unanimously endorsed by Council to proceed to tender.

Council also requested that two optional additions be explored further including:

  • The expansion of the café footprint to cater for a social enterprise group to potentially operate from the centre in future.
  • The addition of an outdoor children’s water play area to the southeast of the pool hall.

These options will be investigated during the tender process to determine whether it is possible to accommodate them in the space and budget available. The tender process will commence soon and a recommendation for the preferred contractor will be presented to Council by the middle of next year. A decision about the inclusion of the two optional additions will also be made by Council at this time as part of the tender process.

We would like to thank you all again for your involvement in the design process and for the many great ideas you have put forward which have been incorporated into the design. The new facility will include an expanded swimming pool, three full sized multipurpose courts, water play, flexible community spaces, sustainable building design and the main entrance will interface with JJ Holland Park.
