The concept plan looks in detail at one area in the Domain Parklands, delivering actions endorsed in the 2019 Domain Parklands Master Plan.

The concept plan area includes the river frontage from the eastern end of Boathouse Drive to Princes Bridge, Boathouse Drive itself and the Alexandra Gardens.

A master plan for the entire Domain Parklands area was endorsed by council in 2019. The master plan includes a set of recommendations on both use and improvements within the Parklands, including improvements for Alexandra Gardens.

Proposed changes in the Alexandra Gardens area were based on community feedback, direct discussions with specific stakeholders in the area such as the rowing clubs, skate park users, event planners and asset assessment and general use studies

The route will still generally follow the river alignment and connect to Southgate Promenade underneath the Princes Bridge.

The pedestrian route will be realigned to a widened path along the riverfront then continue in front of the boathouses to Princess Bridge. The cycling route will join Boathouse Drive adjacent to the skate park and be realigned behind, rather than in front, of the boathouses.

The current shared path connections to the protected bike lanes on Linlithgow Avenue and along Petticoat Lane to St Kilda Rd (south side of the Gardens) will remain as is.

Yes. Proposed changes include:

• Five three-hour parking spaces to be converted to short-term parking for the pick-up / drop off zone.
• Thirteen permit parking spaces behind the boathouses to be reallocated as boat trailer parking.
• Three permit parking spaces removed to allow for the proposed vehicle roundabout.

Exact numbers and locations will be confirmed during the detailed design phase following community consultation.

Existing disabled parking allocation will be retained as four spaces. Two disabled parking spaces will remain adjacent to the toilet block and two may be relocated to another location on Boathouse Drive to accommodate the pick up / drop off area and meet current Australian Standards. Complete the survey to have your say on where these two disabled parking spaces should be located.

New shade tree planting is proposed along Boathouse Drive and the riverfront. New garden beds are proposed to:

• Replace an existing asphalt path on the south side of Boathouse Drive.
• Enhance the presentation of the Victoria Rowers Association War Memorial.
• Existing garden beds will be renewed in line with their existing planting character.

The existing toilet block is being refurbished to improve safety, amenity, and meet current standards. This is expected to be delivered in 2024.

In December 2019, City of Melbourne started engagement with the skate community on future redevelopment of Riverslide Skate Park.

Following input from the Skate Reference Group, we have progressed a design and will continue to refine it over the coming years.

We will commence a final round of community consultation on the design well before we proceed to construction in order for us to take on board people’s feedback.

In the meantime, we will complete repair and maintenance works on the existing skate park which will improve safety and function, as well as the Gardener’s Cottage (skate kiosk) and public toilet, to ensure Riverslide Skate Park remains safe and accessible to the community.

The Stolen Generations Marker fulfils a commitment under the City of Melbourne Reconciliation Action Plan 2021-23. It will be a permanent place for Stolen Generations and their families, anchored by a significant artwork. As well as having a role in recognition, healing and truth-telling, it is intended that the Marker will enhance the public realm and be a place for all.
