The Greenline Project Master Plan is the next step in outlining the vision for the Greenline Project. It will contain design and technical information to guide delivery of improved connections, open spaces and a vibrant public realm along the north bank. It will identify the key changes needed to create four kilometres of interconnected promenades, parks, open spaces, Australian native planting, cultural activations and environmental renewal between Birrarung Marr and the Bolte Bridge.

To support the development of the Greenline Project Master Plan, we have prepared a series of images that explore how the ambitions of the project could be realised. These images take a journey along the north bank and illustrate the diversity of experiences that could be created. We are now testing these ideas with our community and stakeholders to inform the development of the Master Plan.

What we have heard so far

This consultation builds on previous engagement on the Greenline Implementation Plan, and consultation in late 2022 on the draft concept plan for the first Greenline project at Birrarung Marr and to support precinct planning for each of the precincts within the Greenline Project.

The project team have been engaging with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders since the commencement of this project in 2021. This input has reinforced the need and opportunity to:

  • recognise the cultural importance of the Birrarung
  • enhance the health of the river and its ecosystems
  • support story and truth-telling
  • provide benefit to the Wurundjeri community.

Through these previous phases of consultation we’ve heard that our community and stakeholders want to see:

  • A focus on ecological and environmental sustainability, embracing the connection with nature and interaction with the river.
  • The recognition and celebration of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung history and culture.
  • Spaces for passive recreation, relaxation and for community to gather and connect.
  • Accessible and safe spaces to support inclusion and a range of uses along the north bank for our whole community.
